The Red Lion is a friendly, lively pub in the heart of Whitworth. The staff are welcoming, the drinks reasonably priced and every Thursday it is home to an open mic jam night hosted by Nigel Pickering and his band Idol Frets.

Everyone is welcome to get up and have a go with the night also frequented by The Wes Paul Band, singer/songwriter Jack Kay and everyone's favourite Jimi Hendrix impersonator Tony Hendrix.

Last year the jam night was hosted every Wednesday but at the beginning of 2008 was moved to a Thursday night to avoid clashes with football matches shown at the pub.

You can expect to hear all kinds of music here including 70s rock, rock n roll, blues, country, folk, indie and more.

The evening starts at around 9pm and normally goes on til 12am.
